The Child and Career Development Center (CDC) in Coatesville, PA, is a comprehensive school for children with disabilities ages 3-21. Run by the Chester County (PA) Intermediate Unit, the school serves 450-500 children with disabilities ranging from severe cognitive and physical disabilities to those who may be up to grade level but require emotional supports. Children come to the school from Chester and surrounding counties when their district school does not have a classroom that is appropriate or can meet their needs.
Therapy staffing for the center is provided by Austill's Rehabilitation Services, Inc, in Exton, PA, a staffing organization founded and run by Becky Austill-Clausen, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA. Seven occupational therapists, including Rene Knowles, OTR/L, and four physical therapists serve students at the CDC, which has its own sensory room filled with many types of sensory integrative equipment.
