"The OT Student Perspective" is an interactive blog with insight into an occupational therapy student's daily life. It is a well-rounded place for students and those interested in the educational arena to share their experiences.
Blogger Sandy Russo attends Dominican College, one of the few weekend programs for Occupational Therapy in the Northeast US. Born and raised in New Jersey, Russo firmly believes that becoming an occupational therapist is the true compilation of her interests and passions in life.
In her free time she enjoys making and listening to music as well as making and admiring art in any medium. In school, Russo was pulled toward the sciences. As a Health and Exercise Science Major at The College of New Jersey, (where she graduated with her bachelors in 2007) she was headed in the right direction. After graduation, she started working as a therapy aide at the outpatient orthopedic physical therapy clinic where she had interned as an undergraduate.
After a few months, Russo felt a push toward pediatrics and a need to work at a larger facility. She started volunteering at a pediatric rehabilitation hospital and soon after became a therapy aide where she has now been for two years. It is there that she discovered that occupational therapy was exactly what she was looking for. She has since completed her first trimester as an occupational therapy student. Finally, and most importantly, Russo values her family and friends whose support will be a guiding light through these next two years.
