The Lazaretto

A Forgotten Quarantine Hospital

On the shores of the Delaware River near Philadelphia sits an abandoned quarantine station known as the Lazaretto. It was built in 1799 and designed to keep disease aboard incoming ships from reaching Philadelphia.  We took our cameras inside the building with historian David Barnes, PhD, from the University of Pennsylvania who, with other experts, explains its hidden history in this video story.
