A lifelong resident of Bridgeport, Conn., Geraldine W. Johnson has left an indelible mark on her community. Johnson, an elementary and middle school teacher, became the city's first female African American principal and superintendent. In August 2008, the Geraldine Johnson Elementary School was named after her. Speaking on the phone from Connecticut, Johnson shares her story of inspiration and perseverance.
