Passing the New Certification Exam

Rita P. Fleming-Castaldy (formerly Cottrell) is an associate professor in the Occupational Therapy Department at the University of Scranton. She received her doctor of philosophy, post-professional master of arts, and undergraduate degrees in occupational therapy from New York University. Dr. Fleming-Castaldy has over 23 years of academic experience. She has authored numerous text chapters and journal articles and presented nationally on a diversity of professional issues. Her areas of expertise include disability rights and advocacy, professional development and career mobility, case management, and the role of OT in mental health practice. Dr. Fleming-Castaldy is considered a leading expert on the OT certification process. She has extensive experience in preparing students for success on the national occupational therapy certification examination. She is the editor of the National OT Certification Review and Study Guide, the National OT Assistant Certification Review and Study Guide, and the Occupational Therapy Certification Exam Course Manual and serves as an instructor and the research and development consultant for TherapyEd, a major national Occupational Therapy examination preparation company.

Dr. Fleming-Castaldy is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the World Federation of OT, the New York State OT Association and numerous professional advocacy and consumer organizations. She serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy in Mental Health. In 2002, Dr. Fleming-Castaldy received the honor of being named a Fellow to the American Occupational Therapy Association for innovation and leadership in education and advocacy.
